How many Catholic souls have been lost over these past fifty years? How many have walked away from the Catholic faith either for a false religion or for no religion at all? And why does practically no one in the Church ever speak in these terms anymore?

The Church has lost Her self-understanding; Catholics no longer understand who they are, what their role in history is, or what is their proper relationship to God. This has come about as the result of a devastating demolition of Catholic life, where Catholics cohabit, contracept, divorce, and abort at the same rate as non-Catholics, and in some cases at even higher rates.

Today's bishops are in a state of what one Canadian bishop has called "managing the decline." And there appears to be no end in sight to the decline. The culture has turned against Catholic morality and will soon turn completely against the Church itself. Litigation, legislation, and other forms of organized attacks will soon force Catholics to choose between apostasy and martyrdom.

This book is meant to help Catholics understand the nature of the crisis and the failure of leadership that has brought it about, and awaken Catholics to the serious need to get our spiritual lives in order if we wish to gain Heaven.

I was in mainline Protestant ministry for 30 years, becoming Catholic 4 years ago. During most of my ministry, I 'battled' the liberal forces (both within my local congregations and the diocese) against the gay agenda and the pro-abort position that it 'officially' took. Many scars from that. When I crossed the Tiber, I had somehow believed that the liberalism I had battled (and had battled with me) would be 'left behind'. What was discouraging -and still is- is that the SAME liberalism is infecting the Catholic Church as well. Thank the good Lord for Michael and ministry. Without it, I'd probably just given up on Church altogether. This book is a MUST read for those concerned about the drift and decay of the Church.

Militant Resurrecting Authentic Catholicism edition by Michael Voris Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

The Catholic Church is divided into three supernational missions the 'Church Triumphant' which is the Church in heaven comprising all those who have died in a state of grace and attained the beatific vision of God in the company of the angels, the 'Church Suffering' which is the Church in Purgatory comprising all those who have died in a state of sin and are suffering for the purification necessary to enter heaven, and the 'Church Militant' on earth, which is 'militant' because it comprises the living faithful who are struggling against sin and evil for the salvation of souls.

The Church Militant website churchmilitant.com is the creation of Michael Vorbis, a lay Catholic apologist with qualifications and experience in journalism and sacred theology who went into debt to create two media companies (Churchmilitant.com and St. Michael's Media) dedicated to promoting the faith given to humanity by Jesus Christ, and aiming to give everyone the means to their personal sanctification through catechesis and evangelization about the truth of the Christian faith, including those who currently belong to a non-Catholic religious faith or have no faith at all. Churchmilitant.com has been placed under the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Michael the Archangel.

This book 'Militant,' published by St. Michael's Media, is an account by Michael Voris of the crisis of religious faith in today's world, an examination of what led to it and a proposal as to how it can be reversed. In particular, Voris focuses on the crisis within the Catholic Church and how Catholic faith, culture and identity have been undermined by its own priests, bishops and organisations since the Vatican II Councils to the point that is now only possible to resurrect authentic Catholicism by individual Catholics getting their spiritual lives in order and working to spread and defend the true faith.

This book is very well-written and is a compelling read, a must-read not only for Catholics, but for all Christians in today's world which, enslaved to materialism, sensuality and the pursuit of pleasure like the pagan Roman empire before its conversion to Christianity some 1,700 years ago, is every day becoming increasingly hostile to, and contemptuous of, Jesus Christ, and His followers who embrace a way of life that requires self-discipline, self-sacrifice, suffering and submission to the Divine Will, and the rejection of hedonism, narcissism, materialism and utilitarianism.
An unapologetically honest and necessary reminder to all Catholics, and to anyone else who sincerely seeks to obey the Word of our Creator the One True Triune God, that total obedience to His Word is the only way for souls to be accepted into His Eternal Presence. Michael Voris quotes the Gospels, the Church Fathers, Doctors of the Church and Popes, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church with authority and clarifies on existing authentic Catholic Church teachings in order to guide Catholics who have drifted into false beliefs about their faith because of their lack of knowledge, partly being the result of their lukewarm-ness and their attraction to false gods, and partly because of the failings of some Catholic Clergy who are themselves lukewarm or just plain worldly in their ways and thus neglect to teach their flock the Truth that Jesus has given to His Church.
“One of the passions of Pope Francis is evangelization. In today’s world, that requires a committed, faithful laity.  So I think I share his concern in encouraging laymen and women to see themselves in a new way not as passive consumers of the Gospel, but as active agents and disciples.” -Archbishop Charles Chaput

"Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops, like bishops, and your religious act like religious." -Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

"I want a mess" -Pope Francis

I'd first like to mention I rarely do reviews. I'm only doing this one because CMTV must have tracked my purchase and keeps bugging me with emails. Read it if you like, skip it if you want.

Second, I'm not rude or uncharitable, but (unless I'm shopping for a small appliance) I really don't care about the opinions of people on the internet. I won't read the other reviews for this book, nor will I read any sort of "response" to mine should there be any. Once I post this, I'll go look at more Chesterton, Lewis and Tolkien books.

Third, some of you may think this review is a "tangential-rant". It's not. It’s relevant to the book, but I'm trying to provide perspective and background so bear with me.

For the "tangential-rant"
EWTN - I rarely watch it nor have I donated to them since at least 2010. Unless you're a shut-in and want to watch the daily Mass, there's really nothing interesting about EWTN that you can't easily get elsewhere. Their "news" segments are nothing more than secular news desperately trying to put a Catholic twist on it. They fail at doing so. Just look at how nothing but a little lip-service gets paid to the "gay marriage" issue. Scott Hahn is a theological "fruitcake". The Holy Spirit might be a she? Get real! No amount of explanation can excuse this type of nonsense.

EWTN Radio or Ave Maria Radio - There are some good shows here, such as Dr. Ray and Dr. Colleen Kelly-Mast. And I also hear Fr. Larry Richards from time to time. Like EWTN, Ave Maria Radio news is sorely lacking. Al Kresta has a halfway decent show, but it seems like he's "holding back". His show could be so much better. Teresa Tomeo, quite honestly is not only not worth listening to, but she's the epitome of what's wrong with Catholic news media (Raymond Arroyo is a close second). Again, only lip-service on the "gay marriage" and contraception issues. Nothing in-depth, and certainly no strong condemnation.

Catholic Answers - Barely a shadow of its former self. The discussion forum moderators are so politically correct it makes the forums a waste of time to read, let alone to post anything. You could probably get yourself kicked out of those forums by quoting certain parts of the Gospel of John. Karl Keating is an attorney and CEO of a multi-million dollar per year apologetics organization. He seems to have nothing better to do than try and pick on Robert Sungenis, who from a theological standpoint, can, and does, run circles around Keating (read Dr. Art Sippo's review of one of Sungenis' CABs).

The Catholic League - The only thing useful (and they are to be greatly commended for this) to ever come out of this organization is its defense of Pope (should be Saint) Pius XII. However, Bill Donohue belongs in a retirement home where he can watch syndicated reruns of South Park and banter to the staff about anti-Catholicism. After his latest book on the New Geocentrists, Karl Keating really should join him.

Fox News/Business - Who knew that Don Henley was a prophet when around 1984 he wrote about Megyn Kelly? Sean Hannity is Catholic, maybe by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin. The only one worth watching on these networks is Andrew Napolitano. You get him in two minute segments. He used to have his own show called "Freedom Watch". It was cancelled, and you really need to investigate and ask yourself why. From CMTV, Christine Niles is super smart, and can present a story/segment 10X better than anyone on Fox News. And she can do it without sticking her legs out under the desk (I'm strongly guessing she has enough modesty to not do that anyway). And I'll bet she doesn't need a weekly root touch up either.

The US Republican Party - This part is not a rant. I can't be more heartfelt in what I'm about to write. If you Catholics think we can end abortion, Obamacare, embryonic stem cell research, etc,…, by electing a "super majority" of Republicans and getting the judiciary loaded with conservatives, YOU COULDN'T BE MORE WRONG. The Republican party is not the answer, never has been, and is increasingly a big part of the problem. If you think the Republicans are the answer then sorry, but you are either naïve and/or somewhat insane. The answer is "Resurrecting Authentic Catholicism" to borrow the subtitle of the book. What is that you ask? Read the book for your answer. I really don't know what else to say.

If you're frustrated by the above organizations, or by the USCCB, then CMTV just might be for you.

Did you ever have one of those "THAT'S IT! NOW IT ALL MAKES SENSE!" moments? I first had one of these moments when I stumbled across Culture Wars magazine, and the writings of E. Michael Jones around 2007 (Read him if you dare, but one warning, you'll need to put on your big boy/girl pants, or you won't be able to handle it).

Reading "Militant" was another one of those "THAT'S IT!" moments.

Have you ever wondered why Barack Obama was given an honorary degree from Notre Dame, no one with any ecclesial authority did anything about it (I think the elderly local Bishop tried to give a feeble gasp)?

Did you think the Obamacare "contraception mandate" was a uber-perfect opportunity for the US Bishops to present, promulgate, and reinforce Humane Vitae and the Church's teaching on contraception? Did you wonder why/how this got turned into a conversation about "Religious Freedom" instead? (Because of this, I no longer give money to the diocese or parish (diocese takes parish money), and I won't until someone starts doing a lot of talking about contraception during the Sunday homily. My money goes elsewhere).

If you even gave a partial "yes" to the last two questions, then "Militant" is for you. If you've been a regular viewer of the Vortex over the last few years, then much of the book will be familiar. However, it seems startling to have all this information in one place. The book starts with some of Voris' personal story and (re)version, but quickly gets into the demographic disaster the Catholic church is headed for in the US over the next generation. With demographic disaster comes persecution, because the faithful who remain will be seen as an enemy to the status quo.

Voris traces the roots of many of the current problems in the Church to the reformation. But the big issues are the increasing failures of the US Catholic hierarchy to properly lead the faithful over the last few generations. As an example, when the USCCB developed its "zero tolerance" policy in response to the sex abuse scandal which broke in 2002, the Bishops exempted themselves from this policy. So they are accountable to no one as long as they can avoid lawsuits and prosecution, and they are having trouble avoiding those.

The problems that Voris highlights can be summed up by saying the Bishops don't want to change the status quo, even though it's painfully obvious the status quo leaving people with one foot in hell and the other on a banana peel. The mission of the Church (saving souls) has been completely obliterated by those who are more concerned with "worldly" things.

A lot of "popular" personalities such as Bishop Robert Barron and Fr. Jonathan Morris, Scott Hahn, and George Weigel need to be swept under the rug by faithful Catholics. Listen to Fr. Larry Richards or even some old CDs of (Fr) Corpi if you can get a hold of them. Bishop Sheen is great. Finding tracks with good sound quality can be a bit of a challenge. Listen to podcasts by Taylor Marshall. Read catholicgentleman.net, thosecatholicmen.com, chesterton.org, and all.org, but essentially if you find someone who is a regular with the organizations I rant about at the top of this post, then avoid them.

Voris gives account after account, heavily quotes scripture, saints and popes, and leaves you only with one conclusion to draw concerning the US Catholic hierarchy It is by and large pathetically failing in its mission to save souls.

For those of you who say CMTV doesn’t help or even hurts your spirituality, remember it's a news site on the surface. Get a premium membership if you want the full content, much of which is brilliant and beautiful. If you don't like Fr. Pablo Straub, Dr. Charles Rice, Dr. Alice Von Hildebrand, or Bishop Athanasius Schneider, then skip it and go read the National Catholic Register, just don't bother paying for a subscription.

For those of you who think CMTV is just a "cult of personality" around Michael Voris (I do like Michael, but his presentations are far from slick, and he will almost always mess something up when reading from the prompter during a segment), or will "go away if we just ignore them", you fall into the naïve/insane category above. Burying you head in the sand just might gain you the world, but it won't keep you from losing your soul.

For those of you who think CMTV is disrespectful of the Catholic priesthood or episcopate, the quote above from Bishop Sheen is for you. They are more respectful than you could possibly imagine.

Last PS - Did you know there's a 5 second delay on radio broadcasts? When the names Michael Voris or E. Michael Jones are mentioned on EWTN/Ave Maria radio (it happens usually by a caller), a button is pushed that immediately sends the radio station to a commercial break (now you know why those happen). You just might want to consider keeping someone else besides EWTN between your gas and electric bill.

God Bless you. If you read this far (I kind of feel sorry for you), but I hope you buy and read "Militant". And sorry for the spelling and grammar mistakes.
